Old Town is one of the best-preserved 19th-century townscapes in Canada, and the houses are furnished to match: hand-knotted Persian, Turkish and Indian rugs, antique settees and wing chairs, needlepoint seats, and wool stair runners. None of that is cleaned like modern nylon broadloom. Dyes are tested, fibre is identified, and many pieces go back to the shop for a controlled wash rather than being done in the house. Virgil, St. Davids and the newer subdivisions around Glendale and Niagara College add conventional broadloom and everyday furniture where the truck-mount does its usual work in place.

Niagara-on-the-Lake's hospitality stock is small properties: inns with a dozen rooms, bed and breakfasts with three or four, winery tasting rooms and restaurants with upholstered chairs and area rugs in the dining room. They fill for the Shaw Festival season and the harvest, and they need their soft furnishings cleaned between, on a day when there are no guests.
